What is the LSU Food Pantry?
The LSU Food Pantry provides free, supplemental food to students so they can focus on academic success and building community on campus. Open to all students — no proof of need required — the pantry operates on donations and recovers excess food from local grocers and farms.
Why does LSU need a food pantry?
Food insecurity affects 41% of college students nationwide — across public and private institutions, in all regions, and at both two- and four-year colleges. The impact is significant: Food-insecure students are 42% less likely to graduate, and fewer than half of first-generation students facing hunger complete their degrees. The message is clear: It’s hard to learn when you’re hungry.
But this is not just a matter of statistics. These are LSU Students!
What is SEC Food Fight?
SEC Food Fight is a friendly annual competition between all Southeastern Conference schools to raise food and funds for their campus pantries. Schools earn points based on contributions:
- 1 point for each individually wrapped food item
- 1 point for every $1 donated
This is LSU’s first year competing. Let’s show the SEC that LSU knows how to win off the field, too!
Why do we need your help?
The LSU Food Pantry is a critical support system for our students. We're currently serving nearly 2,000 students and seeing up to 350 visits each day. This academic year alone, we’ve distributed more than 250,000 pounds of food. Still, demand exceeds supply. Lines form hours before we open, and shelves are often empty by midday — before everyone has had a chance to shop. Your donations help us purchase additional items to meet growing student needs.
